And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pains and the agony of giving birth. Revelation 12:1-2
For many years it has been believed that this chapter in Revelation was allegorical. It wasn’t until recently that the technology has been available to view stellar alignments through the whole of history. We now know that the great sign described by John in Revelation 12 is that of a specific event which is to take place on September 23, 2017. This alignment has never before taken place and will never take place again.
As with previous celestial signs many people draw erroneous conclusions. The blood moons tetrad of 2014-2015 is the latest example. While the blood moons were an important sign, only the 7th to fall on Jewish Feasts since Christ, with previous two resulting in the return of Israel followed by the return of Jerusalem. Many teachers deceptively implied it meant the start of apocalypse. They used the verse in Joel talking about the Day of the Lord to sell books.
The celestial signs are markers of a prophetic hour. This does not mean that on the day or year they are displayed in the heavens we are to expect the lever to be pulled. It is the same with the Revelation 12 sign. It is an important sign. Its symbolism marks the Day of the Lord, the catching away of the Bride and the time of Jacob’s Trouble. Both the church and Israel are a part of the sign, as is Messiah. The sign also indicates the dragon is cast down and the following chapter is the introduction of the antichrist.
I expect much to change in the coming years on the world stage. Prophetic happenings are occurring at a dizzying pace. Many hack their way through the internet attempting to find the next prediction (there are many). They see a date and focus in on THE DATE while missing the deeper import of what is taking place. The date of the Revelation 12 sign is set. We know it is significant but we do not know if anything will take place on that day. If it follows the pattern of previous signs the event of significance takes place within a 2 year window on either side. 2017-2018 will be the time frame where we can expect to see something take place with the Temple.
As for the catching away and the revealing of the antichrist there is nobody who can say when this will take place. The revealing is an appointed time, so anyone who claims to know who the antichrist is claiming to have special knowledge prior to the appointed revealing.
Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction. 2 Thessalonians 2:3
This sign represents the completion of grace. Taking place on the 3rd day after the year 5777 on the Hebrew calendar, it literally reads “the divine spiritual completion of grace”. Does it mean the tribulation begins on this? Absolutely not. It does let us know that we are in the season for this take place. God’s timetable is not bound to ours but He gives made the stars for signs and seasons. Quite simply, the Revelation 12 sign says we are in the season of the catching away, the revealing of the antichrist and the time of Jacob’s Trouble.
The entire Bible has implications for the present and the future. One should not filter through those things which they deem inapplicable or they are likely to miss astonishing information. All scripture is God breathed (2 Timothy 3:16) and disregarding entire passages that deal with the constellations for fear of crossing into astrology is not being true to scripture. Daniel 12:4 states, “But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book, until the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.” We are now living in the time of the end. This post is meant to address those who accept this premise.
Eighty years ago it would’ve been impossible to determine with precision whether the alignment on September 23, 2017 would take place. Even more compelling is that we would have lacked the ability to apply astronomical data to a specific date in history. Along with increased knowledge and worldwide travel this understanding of astronomy is certainly one of those things which was sealed until the time of the end.
There are a number of notable events that align with this date. September 21-22, 2017 is the Feast of Trumpets or Jewish New Year. It is also the 70 year anniversary of the UN resolution allowing for Israel to be recognized as a state. It is the 50th anniversary or year of Jubilee for Jerusalem. It is the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. It is the 70th anniversary of the Dead Sea Scrolls. 2017 is the 70th Jubilee since Exodus (1483 B.C). In addition, the year 2017 marks year 5777 in the Jewish calender. 5 is the number of grace and the number 7 means perfection and repeated three times it means completion. Therefore, the biblical numeric meaning of 5777 is divine spiritual completion of grace.
In the 12th century, Jewish Rabbi Judah Ben Samuel predicted that there would be 10 Jubilees (10 x 50 year cycles) from the time Jews get captured by a Gentile power (1517 by the Turks) to the Messianic Age. He also accurately predicted the time when the nation of Israel would return as a nation as well as regain control of Jerusalem. Now you can believe this is simply a fascinating list of coincidences. However, I choose to believe that I serve a God who orchestrates all things for His glory.
The Bible has over 300 prophecies telling of His first coming and they were all fulfilled. Some of these prophecies include specifics such as the exact day when Jesus road into Jerusalem on a donkey (Daniel 9). Scripture has more to say about this coming period of history than it did about Jesus’ first coming. Over 25% of the entire Bible is devoted to prophecy. Prophecy is one of the ways that our all knowing Creator reveals His glory to humanity.
We have over 300 prophecies telling of Jesus’ first coming, over 25% of all of scripture devoted to prophecy and the Bible has more to say about this period of history than any other time including when Jesus came the first time.
Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years. Genesis 1:14
The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them,These are the appointed feasts of the Lord that you shall proclaim as holy convocations; they are my appointed feasts Leviticus 23:1-2
Some translations say “sacred times” or “festivals” instead of “signs”. The lights in the expanse of the heavens are markers for specific appointments which take place on earth. We live in a time when our knowledge is increasing and the pride of the human collective believes it can control its destiny through technology. These very seasons, namely the last days, were not only foreknown but they were planned. The appointed time which is taking place in September 2017 is the Feast of Trumpets.
If you are thinking that these feasts are a man made tradition of the Jewish people you are mistaken. The Lord clearly states that these appointed times are His. They are here for a reason and that reason is His glory. The Lord’s feasts as celebrated by His covenant people are included in His word for a purpose. Any attempt to discern biblical prophecy apart from God’s appointed times will be off the mark. We can partially attribute the deluge of end time’s hysteria from the church to this oversight.
The Feast of Trumpets is one of only 3 Jewish Feasts that has yet to be fulfilled. Jesus was crucified on Passover, buried on the Feast of Unleavened Bread, resurrected on First Fruits, and The Holy Spirit descended on Pentecost. The three feasts left to be fulfilled are the Feast of Trumpets, the Feast of Atonement and the Feast of Tabernacles. We know that the Feast of Atonement is the day of judgment and the Feast of Tabernacles is when Jesus takes His throne in the Millennial Kingdom. This leaves the Feast of Trumpets, the appointed time yet to be fulfilled, the feast shrouded in mystery.
Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed. 1 Corinthians 15:51
The Feast of Trumpets in Jewish tradition has been known as “the feast in which no man knows the day or the hour”. Sound familiar? There was never a set day in which the feast could begin because it depended on the visual confirmation of the rabbi to see the crest of the moon with the naked eye from Jerusalem. The subjective component of the official beginning of this feast made it impossible to specify the exact day in advance. Furthermore, the Jews that were not in or around Jerusalem relied on signal fires being lit on mountains to receive confirmation the feast had begun. This would often take 24 hours.
I should mention a few things about Jewish wedding custom since Christ refers to Himself as the Bridegroom and His Church the Bride. If a Jewish man who was betrothed was asked when his wedding ceremony would take place, he would reply “nobody knows but my father.” The husband would go to his father’s house and make preparations (prepare a place) to which he would bring his wife. The bride would need to be ready at all times because the father of the husband would decide when it was time to gather the wife and commence the wedding ceremony.
The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Psalm 19:1
If you always interpreted this verse to mean that the stars are impressive therefore God is amazing you wouldn’t be wrong. However, this is a surface level understanding of what is meant. The glory of God is far beyond anything we can fathom and the existence of stunning stars in the sky is but one glimpse of His marvelous works. When we come to realize that the constellations tell a story and their alignments are confirming what is written in the Bible we are left in wonder. I’ve often been fascinated by the stars because of their vast sizes and distances. However, this understanding does not compare to the realization that billions of moving pieces, established thousands of years in advance converge at specific points in history signaling events foretold by God for the glory of His name.
“Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades or loose the cords of Orion? Can you lead forth the Mazzaroth in their season, or can you guide the Bear with its children?
Do you know the ordinances of the heavens? Can you establish their rule on the earth? Job 38:31-33
Job 38 is a remarkable chapter that highlights God’s control over all things. Job has been brought through the ringer yet the Lord has a seemingly sarcastic tone as He speaks to His dominion over the stars. He mentions three specific constellations along with the Mazzaroth. The Mazzaroth is best described as the Jewish Zodiac before the Zodiac was created to subvert the meaning of the constellations as they were initially understood.
Jewish tradition suggests that Adam, Seth, Enoch and our antediluvian ancestors could understand the story of redemption through the constellations. I’m not dogmatic about this but I certainly don’t dismiss its possibility particularly if you accept that Adam was made perfect. I can’t help but speculate that superior intellect and vision wouldn’t make it far fetched to believe they were able to see a greater degree of God’s glory in the heavens.
Before I go into more detail on the sign of Revelation 12 I’d like to make sure we are on the same page. It is my contention that there is not one of the innumerable stars that accidentally arrives at any location in the universe. Not only did God organize its location but He uses those celestial bodies for signs and to mark His seasons for His glory.
The Heavens During Jesus’ First Coming
What takes place in the heavens is directly linked to God’s plan of redemption. Each star has a meaning in the fulfillment of His divine order. It is helpful to understand that Jupiter is known as the “King Planet”, Regulus is the “King Star”, Leo represents the Lion of Judah and Virgo is the Virgin or Mary. Remember, the heavens declare the glory of God and these representations in the heavens are not far fetched applications nor are they limited to a Christian perspective. I owe some of the following to UNSEALED.ORG.
On September 11, 3 B.C. there is a unique collaboration of events in the heavens. Jupiter (King Planet) encircles Regulus (King Star) three times all while in the constellation Leo (Lion of Judah). Jupiter passes Regulus every 10-20 years but the rare quality of this event is that on this occasion it encircles it not once but three times on the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, The Feast of Trumpets.
On June 17th, 2 B.C. exactly 40 weeks (the typical human gestation period) Jupiter is positioned directly over Jerusalem in the heart of Leo (The Lion of Judah). On December 25th, 2 B.C after moving 15 months without stop Jupiter enters retrograde motion directly above Bethlehem. If you take this all into account we have Jesus being conceived September 11, 3 B.C. (Feast of Trumpets), 9 months later He is born with the King Planet directly above Jerusalem while in the heart of Leo (Lion of Judah). Six months later we have the star of Bethlehem or King Planet directly above the town of Bethlehem. If you are honest with yourself you cannot conclude these are coincidences.
If you believe this to be far fetched I implore you to download stellarium.org and check for yourself. You don’t have to work for NASA, even an elementary familiarity of astronomy can reveal a remarkable glimpse into His sovereign order. The humanists are using technology in an attempt to become God we should employ the same technology to reveal the One True God who knows the end from the beginning. The Woman and the Dragon
September 23, 2017 is the date of the precise alignment detailed in Revelation 12 which occurs for the first and only time in history. This takes place immediately following the Feast of Trumpets and the Jewish New Year or Tishri 1. The Jewish people are known for their near perfect record keeping. I was able to find some extraordinary events that took place on Tishri 1 throughout Jewish history.
The Jewish calendar does not fall on the same days as the Gregorian calendar as each month is 30 days. Remember, this is God’s calendar not ours. In relation to the appointed times, an understanding of Bible prophecy demands a knowledge of God’s calendar. As I began searching historical records for specific dates in Jewish history there were two days that had a remarkable number of significant occurrences, Tishri 1 and Nisan 15. While every other day in Jewish history had between 3-15 notable events these two were upwards of 50.
Here are just a few events that have taken place on Tishri 1, Rosh Hashanah (New Moon and Feast of Trumpets)
- Adam and Eve are created
- Noah’s birthday
- Sarah conceives Isaac
- Isaac blesses Jacob
- Rachel conceives Joseph
- Joseph released from prison
- Pharaoh freed Israelites from slavery
- Hannah conceives Samuel
- David is forgiven for Bathsheba sin
- Daniel sees vision of judgment
There are some dates on this Jewish calender that have yet to take place which I find interesting. http://www.betemunah.org/feasts.html
- “the judgment of the righteous” Rev. 20:4-6
- “the resurrection of the righteous” 1 Thes. 4:16-17; 1 Cor. 15:51-57
- “coronation of the King” Rev. 11:15-18
If we apply all these events with the one time event which takes place in the heavens on Sept. 23, 2017 we have to ask some basic questions. First, could this all be coincidence? Secondly, have the Jews been arbitrarily placing historical events in their records? Third, is this a conspiracy by God’s chosen people who rejected Him as Messiah to orchestrate the coalescence of these events in history with the alignment in the heavens? Either these records show a conspiracy or a remarkable coincidence. Or, God who knows the end from the beginning has orchestrated important events in the history of His people to reflect His appointed times.
And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pains and the agony of giving birth. And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads seven diadems. His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she bore her child he might devour it. She gave birth to a male child, one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne, and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, in which she is to be nourished for 1,260 days.
The 12 stars representing the crown on her head is rare unto itself as there are 3 additional planets uniting with the 9 star of Leo to give her 12. 12 stars could very well be symbolic of the 12 tribes or 12 apostles. Clothed with the sun, indicative of the Holy Spirit, the beloved bride of Christ is made righteous through His redemptive work on the cross. The moon at her feet as though being trampled represents ancient Moon-god worship and darkness. The woman has prophetically often meant the church and this shining glory indwelt by the Holy Spirit is travailing in birth as it is passing the King Planet (Jupiter) through her womb. She then proceeds to go where “she has a place prepared by God to be nourished for 1,260 days.”
1260 days mirrors exactly with Daniels prophecy of a time, times and half a time. In other words, 1 year + 2 years + half a year. This means that for 3.5 years the woman is nourished in a place prepared by God. When the Bible references specific time frames that parallel with others it is for a reason. Remember a day with Lord is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day.
You can draw your own conclusions about whether the Bride of Christ is travailing in birth, giving birth to the King Planet, the day after the Feast in which no man knows the day or hour, when the Bridegroom would go prepare place to come at a time only known by His Father, during an event in the heavens that has never before taken place that is specifically detailed in Revelation.
Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death. Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!”
And when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child. But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle so that she might fly from the serpent into the wilderness, to the place where she is to be nourished for a time, and times, and half a time. The serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, to sweep her away with a flood. But the earth came to the help of the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed the river that the dragon had poured from his mouth. Then the dragon became furious with the woman and went off to make war on the rest of her offspring, on those who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. And he stood on the sand of the sea.
During the time Virgo is giving birth to the King Planet the constellations Serpens is waiting right below her legs. The head of a serpent waiting to devour the child that is to be born. Over the next two months Mercury encounters Saturn and goes into retrograde motion and it appears in real time that the two planets are colliding with one another. Now for the sake of argument I want you to assume that Mercury represents Michael the archangel and Saturn represents Satan. This is not just random symbolism as there is precedence for this allegorical application and I encourage you to do your own research. After Mercury and Saturn appear to be encircling each other as if engaged in battle, Mercury leaves and engages Saturn a second time. After the double conjunction between Mercury and Saturn, Saturn drops down into the head of Sagittarius which depicts the Antichrist. If you accept what takes place in the heavens immediately following the sign of Virgo you also have Satan being cast out of heaven by Michael and then indwelling the Antichrist.
Piecing It Together
Throughout the gospels Jesus said “look, watch”. He said as in the days of Noah so it will be in the coming of the Son of Man. We are currently living in the days of Noah. Prophecy is being fulfilled all around us and most people are concerned with the most tertiary celebrity gossip. Globally Christians are being cut into pieces and the average Christian in the west is more concerned with fantasy football or the latest reality show. This is how it was in the days of Noah.
If we take the Bible literally and in its entirety we must come to the conclusion that God did not want us to be left in the dark about the time of His return. His sheep will know the season. Looking at this another way could you imagine if Jesus had said “everyone listen up I’m coming back on such and such date.” He spoke in parables so that those who didn’t have ears to hear wouldn’t be subject to greater responsibility. In prophecy He spoke in a way that worked for each generation specific to their time. I believe this is one of the reasons we have the metaphorical language as Bridegroom, no man knows the day or hour, and “I go to prepare a place” all referring to Jewish wedding custom. All of which are literal and metaphorical simultaneously.
In Matthew 24 Jesus discusses the Fig tree and as soon as its leaves come out summer is near.
From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates. Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. Matthew 24:32-34
The fig tree has always been symbolic of Israel. In May of 1948 Israel, the fig tree began to bear fruit. According to Jesus, this generation will not pass until His return. According to the Bible a generation is 70 or 80 years (Psalm 90). In other words, 2018-2028.
Did God know that these signs in the heavens would take place or did a few of these things slip by Him?
Did God allow for planets to end up in certain places without a prophetic reason despite telling us they are for signs and seasons?
Is the application of technology helpful to better understand the specific signs in Revelation?
